Bag of Potatoes

I just found a bag of Potatoes in a kitchen cabinet that is rarely used. Its really one of those junk type drawers that all kitchens seem to have. Anyway, I pulled the bag that was stuffed in there out and noticed that there was something unlike I have ever seen in my life growing on these red potatoes.

There were these thorny, white, thick horns popping out of all of the potatoes and they were so overgrown that they pierced the plastic bag and started growing around it. It was truly odd and only my roommate could somehow create a new potato virus/monster. The tentacles were stuck to the inside of the cabinet and looked like octopus tentacles. Its so weird and I think that a scientist should look at this because surely some new vaccine could be made from this new species or a new super virus is living in my house.

Wow!! This is awesome because I discovered the same thing in the back of one of my cabinets when i was fishing around for Brillo pads. I have a roommate who just HAS to buy 15 pounds of potatoes just for himself. He only eats mashed potatoes if they're made from scratch. yet he rarely uses all the potatoes. so they are left to sit for months until they start growing roots. One has this HUGE thick purplish stem..that did resemble a tentacle. This isnt the first time this has happened. So gross. I have found some instant mashed potato mixes that are very good..just as good as homemade. They were invented for a reason. He is definitely someone who is better off using those, instead of allowing bags of potatoes to look like a 10 year old's science fair project.

This is so funny because my roommate had salt potatoes that got left forever and i found them covered in MAGGOTS!!!!! I haven't been able to buy salt potatoes since. Apparently the bad roommate/purchasing and not using potatoes combination is fairly common

the potato hoarding roommate i previously mentioned decided to up and move last week. Well..sort of.he had yet to collect all of his crap, which means that Im sure there will be another gigantic bag of potatoes with thorny roots growing from it waiting for us when its time to clean out the apartment. I might leave them in his room saying that he forgot something....

That is what happens to potatoes as they age. It isn't a bad thing. Just cut the growths off. As long as the potato isn't moldy or mushy it's still good. Your roommate might be an idiot, but it seems you aren't the brightest tool in the shed either.
